The Red Devils Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Bayern was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further business:
- The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
