The Blue Jays Claim World Series Meeting Against defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

The outfielder previously helped the Houston Astros winning the World Series in 2017.

The Toronto Blue Jays earned a spot in their maiden championship series since 1993 by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the decisive game seven of the ALCS.

Trailing three runs to one, Springer smashed a three-run homer in the seventh inning, guiding the only Canadian franchise in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 victory in the seven-game series. Awaiting them are the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are the defending champions, in the anticipated championship.

"I'm just so happy for everyone here, our city, the nation," commented Springer, a star of the Houston Astros team that claimed the 2017 title. "What an amazing experience."

George Springer has now connected for twenty-three playoff homers, ranking him third all-time behind Manny Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).

"There's probably not another person anywhere that I'd prefer in that moment other than Springer with his October magic," remarked Blue Jays manager John Schneider.

The Mariners, who had led the series two games to none and three games to two, are still the one club that has never reached in a World Series.

Manager Dan Wilson commented "without a doubt that it's going to sting" in the wake of his side's defeat at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but commended their performance this season.

"This is a unique group. It's a shame that we had to come out on the unsuccessful side of the series," he added.

The Blue Jays won the championship on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and '93, and are set to host the Dodgers in game one on Friday.
