Brian Eno Urges Public Help to Get Palestinian Solidarity Song to UK Christmas No 1.

A fundraising initiative is aiming to launch a Palestinian lullaby to the top of the UK charts. The campaign hopes to send support to people in Gaza while also showcasing Palestinian culture and creativity.

A Chance for Solidarity and an "Surprise Victory"

Composer and producer Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a chance to support Palestinians over the Christmas period. He acknowledged the potential for an surprise number one.

“It would be incredible if that occurred, yes,” he said. “I won't be completely let down if it doesn’t, holiday tracks are a thing unto themselves.”

Defiant Message of Freedom and Dignity

Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the reimagining of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's defiant core message.

“It has a deeply meaningful spot for many individuals,” Barghouti said. “The message is that I would prefer a dignified death than live a life without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we seek to lead a respectful existence that we deserve as Palestinians.”

Production History and Star-Studded Lineup

The song was recorded following a major charity concert held in late summer. Originally intended to be done as a live recording, the piece was cut from the show due to the event running long.

The impressive roster of performers featured on Lullaby includes a range of well-known figures from the scene. All were part of the benefit event, which managed to collect a considerable total for charitable causes.

Creation and Launch

Lullaby was crafted by a trio of music creators. The song features a combination of the original Arabic with contemporary English verses.

The team running the campaign have emphasized that their aim is to collect the highest amount for a dedicated fund. These proceeds will be distributed to projects in Palestine through an non-profit partner.

“We haven't set a specific target,” a representative commented. “We aim for as much as possible. Obviously, the greater the amount, the better. Every penny goes out to those in need in Gaza.”

The reality in the territory was described as its profound destruction, with a vast majority of buildings described as levelled or seriously harmed.

“Given that reality, a couple of million is unlikely to make that much difference. But I think what truly matters is primarily spreading knowledge of this plight and showing there’s another side to the story.”

The track is set to be released this Friday. Additionally, a video of the solidarity show will be made available for streaming on a major video platform from later in the month.
