Adult Swim's Leading New Show of 2025 Gets a Significant Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.

Last October, Adult Swim welcomed back its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the channel introduced a completely new animated series with a strikingly different tone. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, evoking a cartoon version of a serene talk show. During a period often marked by dark humor, this show's sincerity resonated deeply and propelled it a breakout hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

In mid-December, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four key characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and spread the word," said Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."

Executive Acclaim

Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and supported its uniquely offbeat appeal.

"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about following this endearing family navigate their simple existence.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to move the comedy genre beyond its current cynical streak. He traced this trend to various cultural shifts.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” noted Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we need to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

What Comes Next

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa may well catalyze that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal promises audiences additional episodes to enjoy the warm glow of the beloved Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The entire series is available for streaming on HBO Max.
